Staff R&d Scientist - Mass Spectrometry

**Location/Division Specific Information**:
Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Applied Analytical Technology business unit has an immediate opening for a R&D Senior Instrument Scientist. If you enjoy working with a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural, and distributed team, this is the job!
**A day in the Life**:
- Lead the development and optimization of hardware components and systems for optical and mass spectrometry
- Conceptualize and craft innovative instruments and devices for sophisticated analytical techniques
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, chemists, and researchers, to define project requirements and drive technical solutions, interplay with the entire hardware and software team and several multi-functional teams within marketing, product support and operations
- Conduct feasibility studies, prototyping, and conduct detailed testing, evaluation, and analysis of device performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing vital changes
- Analyze device specifications, build comprehensive technical specifications, and generate detailed design and construction documentation, ensure meticulous documentation of development processes, test results, and technical changes
- Evaluate and select components and suppliers, ensuring high quality and cost-effectiveness in device development, establish positive relationships with manufacturers to procure components and support production processes
- Continuously improve and optimize existing devices and systems, addressing performance, reliability, and cost efficiency aspects
**Keys to Success**:
- Completed masters or doctoral degree in physics, physical chemistry, or engineering
- Successful leadership of development projects with proven results
- Strong Expertise in evaluating and optimizing device performance and reliability
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive innovation in hardware development
- Excellent project management skills, effective prioritization and balancing of multiple tasks
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate successfully with multi-functional teams, proficiency in English, both written and verbal
