R&d Manager - Mass Spectrometry

**Location/Division Specific Information**:
Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Applied Analytical Technology business unit has an immediate opening for a R&D Manager of Instrument Scientists. If you enjoy working with a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural, and distributed team, this is the job!
**A day in the Life**:
- Own the entire research and development process for hardware development of optical and mass spectrometers
- Responsible for developing innovative sophisticated analytical techniques
- Manage and empower an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians
- Develop team and organization through talent acquisition and development
- Take care of team culture
- Define strategic goals, policies, and priorities for device development and optimization
- Set plans, prioritize, and budget for R&D projects
- Lead all aspects of feasibility studies, prototyping, and verification as well as validation testing
- Analyze device specifications, develop comprehensive technical specifications, and build detailed design and construction documents
- Evaluate and select components and suppliers considering quality, cost, and schedule
- Collaborate with internal departments such as production, quality control, and sales to ensure implementation and market launch of developed devices
- Continuously improve and optimize existing devices and systems in terms of performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, safety and quality standards in device development
- Communicate technical information to non-technical team members, customers, managment
- Support diversity in the team
**Keys to Success**:
- 5+ years of people management experience in sophisticated technology product development
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead people including performance, training, mentoring, coaching, directing and motivating staff
- Extensive experience in system development, ideally in the field of mass or optical spectrometry
- Successful leadership of research and development projects, preferably in a managerial role
- Experience in developing and designing hardware components and systems for analytical instruments
- Expertise in selecting and integrating components such as pumps, detectors, sample introduction systems, etc.
- Strong project management skills and ability to effectively allocate resources and manage timelines
- Excellent communication skills, proficiency in English, both written and verbal
