Noc Engineer
**Job Description**:
Arelion owns and operates one of the world’s most extensive fibre backbones. Our network comprises Fibre/DWDM across the EU and US and IP nodes across the globe.

In the next stage of our journey, we are moving to new ownership as an independent company backed by Swedish Venture Capital investor Polhem Infra.
As part of building our new stand-alone operations, we are now establishing our own NOC (Network Operations Center) to make sure our network is healthy and operating at optimum parameters making sure our customers have the best experience in using our services.
**Background**
NOC (Network Operation Center) Engineer is the main role at Arelion NOC performing defined tasks in network monitoring and escalation management on 24/7 shift basis.
**NOC engineer tasks and responsibilities**:
- Monitor Arelion network, per platform: Transmission (xWDM) and IP, as well as underlying infrastructure (sites, wholly owned and rented fibre)
- Act on a defined set of alarms and initiate troubleshooting of faults and outages indicated by these
- Act on a defined set of alarms indicating non-service affecting faults with a potential to become service-affecting
- Troubleshoot network faults per platform
Interact with 3rd party providers (i.e. hardware, network, FLM) in the course of troubleshooting
- Ensure proper documentation during and after troubleshooting
- Configure NOC monitoring tools as per requirements. Be a part of requirement setting for the current and future tools
- Perform in-depth level of analysis and troubleshooting in order to resolve as many cases as possible at first line without escalation to second level support
- Be responsible for keeping the fault handling ongoing and push for a resolution/restoration
- Ensure a good communication flow to external and internal stakeholders on major events in the network
- Collaborate with the internal units in troubleshooting and information-sharing contexts
- Keep track of SLA thresholds and commitments, chase information and progress status with other internal units and external providers
- Write reason for outage reports for network outages
- Coordinate ongoing planned maintenance (be a SPOC for ongoing planned outages)
- Contribute to the process development and improvements, as well as knowledge sharing
- Exemplify the company values & code of ethics in the daily workflow
Skills & Requirements
**Specific area of expertise / Requirements**
- Documented technical knowhow and skills in terms of troubleshooting per relevant platform (e.g. xWDM, TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, QoS,)
- Experience of working in a NOC environment (3-5 years min)
- Software skills and interest to participate in IT requirements and setup are meriting
- Power user experience on Windows/Linux Server/Client operating systems
- Experience to work in an international environment and/or interest to work is such
