Junior Scientist
Background
SOTIO is a mid-sized biotech company developing novel protein-based anti-cancer therapies. The main focus of the ADC Discovery team is on antibody-drug-conjugates (ADC), a rapidly emerging class of cancer therapeutics. This team is part of the very initial (discovery) and preclinical stage of drug development that enables you to have a direct impact on SOTIO’s development strategy, selection of a drug target and a clinical candidate molecule. The research and development are conducted in brand new laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment for drug testing.
Position Summary
We are looking for two proactive and curious early-career scientists to join our ADC Discovery team. As a successful candidate, you will become an integral member of a dynamic and highly collaborative environment, where you will get a unique opportunity to advance next-generation cancer therapeutics into the clinical phase. In this role, you will design and execute in vitro experiments to answer critical questions about molecules and targets under evaluation and present your findings in team meetings. You will study biology of the relevant proteins to support selection of the right target or adjustment of the structure of the candidate molecules to make them more efficient against tumor cells. You will closely collaborate with members of project teams to determine the right timing of activities, priorities and future plans.
Key Activities and Responsibilities:
Design, execute and troubleshoot (mainly cell-based) in vitro assays
Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments
Build protocols for the experiments
Analyze and critically review data, prepare reports and presentations in English for internal meetings
Proactively optimize processes around routine experiments to reduce workload and increase efficiency/speed
Review relevant scientific literature and other available resources to increase team’s know-how, support the drug development and assay optimization
Work both independently and as part of a collaborative team to achieve shared goals
Competence, Skills and Qualification:
Master’s degree in cancer biology/cell biology/immunology/molecular biology or related fields
Hands-on experience in cell culture, cell-based assays, flow cytometry and molecular biology techniques
Experience with proliferation, cytotoxicity, drug response assays and/or compound screening is an advantage
Ability to conduct data analysis using Microsoft Excel, GraphPad PRISM, or equivalent software
Experience in conducting literature reviews
Oncology project background is an advantage
Strong attention to detail in a rapidly changing environment and ability to work on multiple programs simultaneously
Flexibility to acquire additional competencies and skillsets as needed
A proactive, motivated, open-minded and self-organized person
Knowledge of the English language on the advanced level (written and verbal communication skills)
Working with hazardous biological and chemical substances under the appropriate safety measures is part of the job description
Hepatitis B vaccination will be required
