This position requires a balance of technical oversight and operational management, ensuring that priorities are aligned and fostering collaboration across development, QA, and operations teams, while maintaining a scalable and automated infrastructure.

DevOps Lead

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced DevOps Lead to assume ownership and responsibility for their DevOps function. The primary focus of this role will be team coordination, communication, and continuous process improvement. This position requires a balance of technical oversight and operational management, ensuring that priorities are aligned and fostering collaboration across development, QA, and operations teams.

The client leverages AWS-based cloud applications and tools such as ECS/EC2, Terraform, Ansible, Python, Octopus Deploy, and Jenkins for build pipelines. Their backend is built in C++, C#, and Java, with a React-based frontend, and they also work with desktop applications.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Coordination:

• Acts as the primary liaison between development, QA, and operations teams to understand their requirements, pain points, and priorities.
• Facilitates and prioritizes team workloads, balancing technical tasks with operational needs.
• Ensures clear and accurate ticket descriptions, prioritization, and status updates in Jira.
• Guides and mentors, a team of DevOps engineers, helping them grow both technically and professionally.

DevOps Strategy and Execution:

• Defines and implements best practices for CI/CD pipelines, leveraging tools such as Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, and Terraform.
• Manages and optimizes AWS infrastructure, ensuring cost efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
• Oversees configuration management with tools like Ansible and infrastructure-as-code principles.
• Drives monitoring, alerting, and logging improvements to maintain system reliability and performance.
• Oversees build server management (e.g., Jenkins) and source control (e.g., Bitbucket/Git).

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

• Proven experience working in DevOps teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of AWS services (ECS, EC2, Lambda, S3, etc.) and infrastructure management tools like Terraform and Ansible.
• Familiarity with Jira or similar tools for ticket management and team coordination.
• Solid understanding of backend (C#, Java) and frontend (React) development practices to collaborate effectively with development teams.
• Programming experience in Python.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with cost optimization techniques for AWS infrastructure.
• Knowledge of both Windows and Linux.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, Octopus Deploy).
